The electoral landscape in Brazil is heating up as the country approaches the first round of municipal elections. The Justiça Eleitoral has recorded a staggering 68,000 complaints of irregularities involving electoral propaganda. The most reported deviations include the illegal posting of posters and banners, misuse of public property for candidate promotion, and irregular online propaganda.1
In Porto Alegre (4314902), the current mayor Sebastião Melo (MDB) leads the race with 32.4% of the vote intentions, followed closely by Maria do Rosário (PT) with 28.9% and Juliana Brizola (PDT) with 22.7%.2 Meanwhile, in Belo Horizonte (3106200), Mauro Tramonte (Republicanos) tops the polls with 27%, followed by Bruno Engler (PL) with 21% and Fuad Noman (PSD) with 20%.3
In Recife (2611606), João Campos (PSB) maintains a commanding lead with 75% of the vote intentions, ahead of Gilson Machado (PL) with 11% and Daniel Coelho (PSD) with 3%.4 Similarly, in Rio de Janeiro (3304557), Eduardo Paes (PSD) is poised to win in the first round with 53% of the vote intentions, followed by Alexandre Ramagem (PL) with 20% and Tarcísio Motta (PSOL) with 6%.5
